GUITAR CONCERT
(8th February 2012, 6:30pm, Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, New Delhi)

a classical guitar concert by
GANESH DEL VESCOVO

"Throughout the years I have heard Del Vescovo play many times on different occasions and have always felt I had entered into an enchanted sphere made up of the emotions and feelings of a beautiful musical talent: a very personal sphere which communicates and has moments of radiance.”
Mario Luzi

Ganesh Del Vescovo. the Italian guitarist and composer, considered a virtuoso of the classical guitar today, began his guitar studies as a self-taught musician. An important meeting with Alvaro Company, a pupil of Andrès Segovia, brought him to follow Company’s courses at the Conservatory of Florence, where he graduated with full grades, cum laude and honourable mention “for his extraordinary skill in portraying the character and mood of the pieces performed.”Throughout his career he has concentrated on the many periods of the guitar repertoire -Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern and Contemporary - and has also developed a personal technique of transcription from other instruments. His concert repertoire includes his own transcriptions of authors such as Bach, Frescobaldi, Scarlatti, Mozart, Schubert, Debussy and Verdi.
He also plays the sarod and the tabla, and has composed original pieces for both. His approach to composition has inevitably led to the necessity to modify the classical guitar. Two new instruments were thus created: the “Chikari Guitar” and the “Sarod Guitar”.

He has many publications and CDs to his credit like: Studi, Dodici studi di transizione, Tre studi giovanili, Tre reminiscenze per chitarr,; Jasidih Express, Sandhya and Three Dhuns. The guitarist Andrea Vettoretti has recorded, for Phoenix Editions, Tre reminiscenze and Sei studi di transizione. In 2009 he published a DVD with GMC Guitar Media Collection. He has also recorded a cd of his own music in 2010 and also published the guitar transcription of Children’s Corner. His Tre reminiscenze is included in the concert repertoire of Kazuhito Yamashita, who also gave the first performance in September 2005, in Nagasaki, of the composition dedicated to Ganesh Del Vescovo called “Suite “alla montagna” and then in 2006, in Tokyo, of his transcription for guitar of Schubert’s “Six moments Musicaux”.

He has given many Master Classes and Seminars and has performed as a soloist in many concert halls in Italy and abroad and has also played in chamber music ensembles.
In 2011 he received first prize for composition at the International Festival “Claxica 2011”

A performance with a strong visual impact, taken from the famous text by Jules Verne, appreciated by adult and young audiences alike.

The latest production by Teatro Potlach stems from the idea of combining the company’s 30-year experience of work on the actor’s role and on his presence on stage with the latest state-of-the-art digital and lighting technologies. The actors are literally “immersed” in a magical, dream-like setting with digital projections and latest-generation LED lights, and will take the spectators along with them in the discovery of the sea depths and of Captain Nemo’s mysterious Nautilus.

Founded in 1976 by Pino Di Buduo and Daniela Regnoli Teatro Potlach takes its name from the anthropological studies of the founders. The history of Teatro Potlach begins in the years of the Roman theatre avantgarde, with a choice of rejection of mainstream theatre and the search for a new creative and geographical dimension.

Teatro Potlach has been expressing its artistic identity through the production of indoor as well as outdoor performances, and through pedagogical activities involving a range of expressive and performing techniques, with an ongoing exchange of ideas and techniques with national and international groups as part of the search for a professional approach capable of addressing every audience.
